Forms signed, no fine this time

At 6.30 on Thursday, I go to sign the match report from the previous week. The league official points out that the opposition have failed to enter the score and goalscorers so as far as they are concerned it finished 0-0. I dont know what will come of this, whether they will take the email confirmation (which was 3-0) or whether we will be awarded a point. Watch this space!!!

First game, first black mark

I'm sat on the PC minding my own business when an email comes in from the club secretary. I forgot to score the referee and sign the official match form after our first game. This offence normally carries a £15 penalty however the league have been lenient and have said that if I go and sign it they will let us off on this occasion. A simple phone call to the league official is all it takes and a date and time is arranged to sort out the paperwork.

Anybody know a referee

Monday night and our first home game of the season is looming. This is normally the time I have to phone the opposition and confirm Sundays game. However, seeing as its a local derby, I have already spoken to their manager at a childrens birthday party, so far so good....

In the Nuneaton and Bedworth league this season however, there is a shortage of referees. I try 2 who we used last season but they are unavailable for various reasons. The third one however agrees to the game although it involves him coming from one end of town to the other forcing a 10 minute delay in the kickoff

New season starts amid much optimism

After a 5 week summer break and 3 weeks back in training, the season finally kicked off this Sunday. With only 7 players available for duty its going to be a tough start against one of the fancied teams this time round. We hold our own without really threatening and finally go down to a 3-0 scoreline.

After the game I emphasise to the players that the difference between us and the top teams is self belief and confidence. If we can work on this then we will go places this season
